After eight years as a tent event, Jazz Sommer Graz moved to a traditional outdoor stage for 2006. This change in venue, to the “Kasematten” on the hill “Schlossberg” was the ideal moment to consider new technical solutions. Enter GEO D and EtherSound.

The new GEO D system features a fully digital EtherSound network with a Yamaha PM5D at FOH fitted with Auvitran AVY16-ES cards, plus a remote AD8HR with AVKit-ES kits. An additional Digigram ES8out feeds nearfills, monitor console, talkback, etc. NEXO NX242 TDcontrollers, with NXtension cards and ESmonitor software, were required to complete the network.

Wolfgang Peschmann says; "Due to the additional digital connectivity with Nexo NX242 and EtherSound on one side, and Yamaha on the other side, it was logical to connect both components in the digital domain. After testing the components for functionality and reliability, I made some hearing tests EtherSound vs. Analog, and everyone agreed that the EtherSound feed was the better sounding solution. From that moment, it was clear to go fully digital. The connection between stage and front of house console is made with redundant fiber optics using two Auvitran AVRed-ES."

Ing. Peschmann adds that he has gotten "many compliments from the band musicians and techs for the great sounding festival PA. The bands profit from NEXO´s great directivity of GEO D10 and CD18, as the PA is pretty silent on stage and makes the monitor engineers lives easy, and the musicians happy. On the other side, all of the band engineers are extremely pleased with the sound of the PA. No changes were made to system setup or EQing. This was a first for the festival. “Tower of Power” band members and engineers mentioned it as the best sounding PA on their tour."
