On June 13, French Polynesia played host to the Olympic torch relay as part of festivities for the 2024 Olympic Games involving as many French people as possible from all corners of the world.

The 31st stage of 68 before the torch returns to Paris for the opening ceremony on July 26th saw 124 torchbearers mobilised across 11 municipalities with the Olympic flame arriving at the tip of Fare Mahora aboard a traditional V6 canoe accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of traditional percussion. The day culminated in the lighting of the cauldron at Place To’ata in the capital Papeete on the island of Tahiti, with a concert attended by thousands of islanders.

The sound system for the event was provided by local NEXO distributor Comimpex who deployed a system comprising left and right hangs of 9 x STM M46 main and 9 x STM B112 bass extension line array elements with 3 x M28 side fills, and 6 x STM S118 subs per side in a cardioid configuration. Stacks of 1 x  S118 with 3 x M28 were used for stage side fills and amplification and processing came from 9 x NEXO Universal Amp Racks which also incorporate digital input metering and output patching.

“This was an important opportunity for French Polynesian people to be a part of the Games and we’re proud to have delivered world-class sound at such a prestigious event” comments Comimpex Manager Jean-François Leou.
