First staged in the historical capital of Provence in Southeast France in 1948, the Festival d’Art lyrique d’Aix en Provence is a celebration of opera and classical music which takes place every summer and has grown to become one of the great European lyric festivals.

The first performances were given outdoors in the courtyard of the former Archbishopric. Over the years, several sites have been added including the Grand Théâtre de Provence, the Jeu de Paume theatre, the Hôtel Maynier d’Oppède and the Cours Mirabeau, a wide thoroughfare that forms a link between the Mazarin district to the south and the old commercial city to the north, and one of the busiest and liveliest places in Aix en Provence.

In a large outdoor space measuring some 440 x 42 metres, local event technology specialists Texen Aix-en-Provence has deployed an all-NEXO sound system comprising left, centre and right hangs of compact, single 10-inch GEO M10 line arrays, with GEO M12s as delays. NEXO’s powerful and versatile P10s provide on-stage monitoring, with monitoring at the mixing position from NEXO’s ultra-compact ID14s.

“The NEXO GEO M combines the power and throw necessary to cover such a large audience space along with the purity and clarity of sound that is well suited to classical music and opera performances” comments Texen Aix-en-Provence Manager Thomas Goeuriot. “And the NEXO P10s provide a compact and elegant stage monitoring solution.”

The 2024 Festival d’Art lyrique d’Aix en Provence continues until July 23rd, and visitors and local residents can enjoy a rich programme of operas along with an ambitious collection of concerts including vocal recitals, contemporary music premieres and symphonic repertoire by Mozart, Berlioz, Mahler and Schönberg.
