The Jugend Forscht (Youth Research) is a prestigious German competition for young scientists and researchers in many different disciplines.  With Joachim Gauck, the President of Germany, as its main patron, the Federal competition is the most popular talent contest in the country.  Organised by the Heinz-Nixdorf-Museum Forum (HNF), the world’s largest computer museum, the final Awards ceremony was held at the Messehalle in Paderborn.

Sound Linear was contracted to provide sound reinforcement for the large hall, set up on the first day with tables for 600, and on the second day, in theatre-style with seating for 1200 people.  The brief asked for a sound design which would fit discreetly into the truss, with small lightweight loudspeaker cabinets, intended to be as invisible as possible.

MD of Sound Linear Kalle Hogrefe explains, “ we used the NEXO NS-1 proprietary modelling and prediction software to design the system, which used several different types of NEXO cabinet.  As the main PA, there were L/R clusters of STM M28, with 5x GEO M620s flown alongside them but angled to cover the sides of the wide hall.  A small cluster of 2x GEO M620s took care of the centre fill.  We used 4x PS10 cabinets for delays, and 4x ID24s for stage monitoring, all flown.  Everything was driven by 4x NUAR racks, over an EtherSound network controlled by a digital console at front-of-house.”

Sound Linear’s solution at the Paderborn Messehalle endorses the achievements of NEXO’s R&D engineers in ensuring sonic compatibility between the different NEXO loudspeaker families, so that all models can be used in one coherent system.
